This is something that I believe many girls are lacking.
Girls naturally look for affirmation, for love. They desire for someone to tell them that they’re beautiful, and I have read many stories of young girls who have been hurt by the inconsiderate and unkind remarks of a man (usually a boyfriend) in their life about their body.
First of all, we shouldn’t be looking to people to praise our bodies. We know that in Christ we are fearfully in wonderfully made as written in Psalm 139. We should be looking to and finding our security in Christ, not the fickle opinions of men.
Yet, God did make women to need men in their lives. For a young woman, who is not married, that is most often her father.
I am grateful for my father. My father has given me hugs when I needed one. He has expressed gentle care and concern when I struggled with my eating and exercise habits. He has encouraged me to pick the road that may be hard, but the road that leads to repentance and healing. And he has reminded of the importance of a father’s kiss.
For a young woman, there is no sweeter gift than to see the love of our Heavenly Father through the hugs, kisses, and words of an earthly father. A father’s kiss on his daughter’s cheek, on her brow, is something that not only expresses love, but it expresses care, concern, and a security for a girl in a world that is always trying to throw her off her feet.
If you don’t have a father, there is no need to worry however. There is a Father, a Friend, who is closer than a brother. He is our Heavenly Father on whom we can depend, even when all else fails.
Today I am grateful for a father, both my earthly and heavenly Father.
