You walk into the gym, and you immediately notice the girl who has really big weights that she’s lifting; you see the guy running really fast on the treadmill. Another lady is actually doing the splits, and her hamstrings aren’t ripping. The comparison game is strong, but why are you going to the gym? That’s a question I ask myself not just at the gym but when I get on Instagram and see what others are doing for their workout that day.
Why am I doing it? The reasons for doing it have definitely changed over the years, but I still struggle with that competitive comparison that creeps up every day.
However, instead of sharing my own story, I am sharing the story of one of my FAVORITE gym athletes, Kat. She’s an amazing baker, as you’ll see, from the pictures sprinkled throughout this post.
Kat stands out to me as an athlete who is tough, gentle, compassionate, and she can do one epic box jump. The love and joy of Jesus wells out of her like a fountain of water, and it’s obvious to everybody who receives her comments, reads her blog, and sees her love on her puppies (on Instagram stories.)
Kat is recovered from an eating disorder, and she is learning about listening to her body. She has gone through the valleys of exercise addiction, food fears, and she is a shining testimony to the miracles God does.
She kills it at the gym with awesome strength workouts, and she loves lifting heavy weights (probably more than any other person I know.) But she hasn’t always been able to ‘do her thing’ at the gym without comparing herself to others.
Today, Kat came to share her story, her struggle, and how she encourages others to ‘do you’ in the gym, encourage, and not compare.
Without further delay here it is! Without hesitation I will say that I think you are really really going to love and resonate with this episode. Kat’s house was enduring a pretty amazing California storm (praise God that the state is getting re-hydrated right?), so she will cut out a bit during the podcast, but most of the time she was pretty clear!)

Now that I’m looking through all of her recipes, I want to go make more of them.
Kat always energizes me to go do what’s best for my body at the gym (whether it be at home or going out to the gym.) She doesn’t want you to be her. She wants you to be ‘you’, who God created you to be, and I’m grateful Kat could share her story.

Linking up with Katie for MIMM… <3 Keep her sweet precious baby Elisabetta in prayer. I’m also linking up with Amanda to Think Out Loud about this topic, because I know this is something a lot of us struggle with from time to time.
