Life has been crazy and fun lately. I told my sister that this was the best summer I’ve remembered in a long time. It’s been full of swimming, a few small vacations, lots of warm days, lots of cool nights on the porch, lots of ice cream, lots of movie nights and snacks, lots of sweet slow Bible times with the family, prayer times, lots of tears (cause I’m a very emotional gal), and so much of being reminded of God’s incredible love.
Psalm 118:1, ‘Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!’
(Linking up with Meg and the peeps for the first time in a while for Week in Review!)
I still don’t LOVE heat, but I’m learning to embrace it along with the water, the um… mosquito bites, the early morning runs, or late evening runs to avoid the heat.
I’m enjoying ice cream every day especially the large one I had on Sunday. I’m enjoying little ice cream sandwiches (kind of an open-faced cookie) sandwich I had after making this ‘sunflower seed butter cookie’ recipe.
The other things I’m learning to enjoy/embrace about summer:
Dogs laying in the kitchen (Truly the lazy dog days of summer)
Cool Workouts in our barn
Air Conditioned workouts at our local CrossFit gym
Laying on the floor in our room with the fan blowing in my face
The early mornings when it’s cooled off
The sunshine that’s making every thing grow so beautifully
Ok, I know some of those don’t have to do with the heat of summer, but I am learning just how much of a blessing air conditioning is this year.
Another thing that has been a delightful part of summer has been finding new things/activities to try right in my own town or in Denver. I have to admit that I haven’t really explored Colorado all that much; I find that some of my friends from other states who come to visit Colorado do more exploring than me.
One of my favorite things this summer was going out to swing dance at Little Man Ice Cream in Denver.
Have you tried swing dancing? It’s so full of mostly fun music (I didn’t like some of the songs, but that’s how it usually is, right?) There were some classic Johnny Cash songs like, ‘I Walk the Line’ and ‘Folsom Prison Blues.’
Swing dancing is full of bounce and fun and not too loud. It’s classic and a bit old fashioned, and I would have to say I’m kind of an old fashioned gal.
Another Fun Favorite Thing from Summer?
I’m doing some photo projects, and the lighting lasts so much longer (especially the golden hour in the evening.) I’m able to take photos out on our porch, looking into the gorgeous pine trees God has so amazingly surrounded our property with.
Now this is not directly a summer related thing, but the BIGGEST victory this summer?
I’m not coping with uncomfortable feelings about my body in the same unhealthy ways I have for years. I still find myself occasionally looking up calorie counts, but I’m not measuring my waist obsessively when I feel fat or weighing myself.
I’m not refusing going out to eat as much, and it’s a rare occasion when I’m afraid of going out to eat anymore.
I’m also really really enjoying going out to eat. I’ve been able to try Greek food, Mod Pizza, ice cream multiple times, burgers (my favorite food), and so many other foods that I used to put as ‘off limits’ in my head.
Overall this has been the year of freedom that I had hoped and prayed for in a way that I never expected.
So there’s a snippet of summer for me.
