HELLO! I really thought about writing about ‘digestive issues’ today, but today I really want to focus on being grateful instead. I have so many of those. I’m learning that what ultimately matters is not my issues, but God’s goodness and mercy in the midst of all my issues.
Gratefulness always wins out, and I want to focus on gratefulness today. That doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be real and share the struggles of the week. Yet, it’s so easy for me to be ‘overly focused’ on the winds and the waves instead of Him who controls the winds and the waves.
The first ones to highlight of the week are of course….
Top 3 Food Experiences:
The Best Hot Cereal I’ve Ever Had – Purely Pinole sent me a box of their ancient grain cereal to try. This stuff is seriously so warm and comforting. This was the bluberry, banana flavor, and I was BLOWN away by how good and filling it is. It even has 7 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein per serving.

Number 2: It would have to be this protein powder from ‘Try About Time..‘ They were really kind to send me 6 packets to try, and I mixed the ‘Birthday Cake’ flavor into my yogurt bowl yesterday.
The verdict? It was REALLY good, not too sweet or artificial tasting at all, and now I’m just trying to decide which protein powder is the best. It’s a hard decision y’all, but this one was:
Just the right amount of sweetness
Not hard on my stomach
And really smooth tasting
Number 3: This gluten free cookie cake from Alexa was a HIT in our house, which is really unusual for gluten free goodies. I’m so thankful that God keeps me humble by my family giving me honest critiques of the things I make. I’m also really grateful that they loved this one. 🙂
Now let’s go for the Top 3 Lessons of the Week:
1) Be Humble. I’ve been listening to this sermon series from Romans 12. Verse 16 and the lessons from it have been on my mind all week.
‘Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.’
Too often I forget that the whole problem when I’m angry, frustrated, self-pitying, or ____(insert other negative sinful emotion), I’m usually so self-focused and so wise in my own conceit, that I’ve forgotten who I am and who Christ is.
My prayer is that I would be more humble and less wise in my own conceit. I don’t want to think too highly of myself, but instead, my prayer and desire is that I can LOVE God with all my heart and love my neighbors as myself. Pride and arrogance ruins relationships, but I can testify that especially my parents have exemplified to me that humility always builds up and heals relationships.
Most of all, I want to be more humble like the Lord Jesus, and I’m grateful for so many of you encouraging me to continue to look to Him.
2. Peace in the middle of chaos. – It’s hard to be peaceful when circumstances are UP and DOWN, but I’m thankful that the peace of Christ is true and real despite what I feel.
Colossians 3:15, ‘And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.’
3) Friendship takes time and humility. – These are two things that I am very bad at, because I’ve struggled with being impatient. My prayer is that I can learn from my friends like Claire, Megan, Kristy, Rachel & Bethany, Alyssa, Marina, Kaila, Elaine, and I can’t even list them all here.
These girls teach me so much about friendship every day.
John 15:12-15, ‘My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.’
Now for…. Top 3 Highs of the Week
Stormy Skies – I’m thankful that God sends rain on the earth. It makes the house seem cozier, and it’s always fun to fill the house with the smell of a baked goodie while it’s raining.
Deuteronomy 11:14, ‘that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil.’
This girl: She turned 16 this week, and this girl is more sensitive, kind, and caring than I ever was at her age. I truly see God working in her. She reminds me of the compassion of Christ every day. We had an epic birthday party which included:
It was wonderful!
#3) My parents anniversary! – My parents were married 26 years ago, today, and I can’t believe how merciful God is to have given me and my 4 siblings this mom and dad.
What have my parents taught me?
and most of all they are always pointing us away from looking at them as the perfect example and looking to Jesus.
However, they are such an example of Jesus Christ to me and His saving work in their lives, that I have learned many lessons from them and their marriage. I’m praying that God gives them MANY more years together.
Mark 10:9, ‘What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.’
Top 3 Lows:
1. I always have a hard time with this one, but probably, not getting enough sleep. However I’m thankful that I’m catching up (last night and hopefully tonight)
Ashley’s article on sleep was really good for me to read as I realized how often I ‘self sabotage’ myself when it comes to sleep.
Psalm 127:2 is always a really good reminder for me when I think that I have to stay up all night or ‘get it all done.’ It’s okay to sleep, because God gives sleep. , ‘It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.’
And…. Um…. I’m not sure my brain can think of any right now, but I’m sure there were others. Thankfully, I’ve forgotten them at this moment.
Before we end however, I want to share my FAVORITE posts of this week. Here they are for your reading pleasure. 🙂
