Gut healing is such a trendy word. And this year I kind of got sucked into all the parts of it including the diet culture that weaves itself in and out of gut healing. Now I’m not talking about gut issues like Crohn’s, IBS, IBD, or any other bowel diseases, but I’m talking about having struggles with restriction, coming out with gut struggles because of that restriction, and listening to the lie that I should ‘restrict’ certain foods or not eat certain foods in order to heal my gut.
The Lord restores. That’s what I can say this year again and again; for a LONG time I was really discouraged about my gut issues; I didn’t think anything could be resolved. I became afraid of some different kinds of foods, because I thought those were doing something to my gut, but I realized that the anxiety about those foods was actually creating more digestive distress for me.
I don’t know exactly what the years of restriction did to my gut, but it didn’t do good things to my gut. My gut became really sensitive, and only this year have I really headed straight for the problem, asking the Lord for healing, for courage to do the things necessary in order to heal.
Isaiah 55:12-13, ‘
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.’
I couldn’t really discern what was diet culture and what I actually needed for gut healing.
Here’s what I found, through working with Nourishing Minds Nutrition.
I didn’t need:
to try all the supplements recommended on Instagram
but what did help?
Well that’s what this episode will be about with Megan of Run Whole Nutrition. We’re talking about:
– Why gut healing can be mixed with diet culture
– Why exercise affected my gut
– Why stepping back from lots of intense exercise has helped my gut symptom GREATLY lessen
– How restriction affects the gut
– How to discern between diet culture and true gut healing
– Good resources for gut healing/Where you should go if you have struggled with restriction and gut issues
Have you struggled with wanting gut healing but being affected by diet culture too?
