April and May have been wonderful and hard and good all at the same time. These kinds of posts are always and will always be my favorite kinds of easy and fun posts from bloggers. I’m going to share some snippets of life lately for your viewing pleasure.
April was crazy busy. It included one of my sisters getting ENGAGED!!!!!! (which was an awesome story), the beginning of wedding planning, the visit of a sweet friend from California, the last snowboarding for the year in Breckenridge with my sister, a short trip to Chicago, and lots of wonderful freedom with food and exercise.
Lately I’ve been getting into a weight lifting program that was inspired by my brother, who loves weightlifting and running as much as me. It’s actually helped me completely separate myself from being addicted to running or cardio, so it’s been overall very healthy for me.
This month has also included more baking, because let’s be real; baking is my therapy. It’s a happy spot where I can think, get flour everywhere, listen to some podcasts, music, pray, or just think.
Some of the recipes I’ve tried that I would highly recommend:
These would be the ‘Lemon Zucchini Bread’ and ‘Carrot Cake’ respectively. And boy were they amazing; the other thing they reminded me of is that ‘white flour’ has a place in my diet. I used to really fear white flour, but now I’m thankful the Lord has given me freedom to enjoy it and enjoy any other flour like wheat flour, spelt flour, gluten free flour.
The CREAMIEST bowl of S’mores Icecream from Golden Sweets – It was some of the creamiest icecream I’ve eaten. I had it while touring Golden, CO with my friend Jamie from Cali.
Because Golden, Colorado is just so beautiful, I’m going to inundate you with some other beautiful, random snapshots of Golden, because it’s a really beautiful city that showcases so much of God’s natural created beauty. As a lover of the country and all things country, I have to say that this small town appealed to this country girl’s heart.
Psalm 148:7-13, “Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word: Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars: Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl: Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth: Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children: Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.”
Then there’s normal life. Normal life has kind of come back to normal lately. I’m spending more time in the morning and afternoon baking, working a bit on gardening things (I’ve stepped back so much on gardening the past few years and that has honestly been a huge burden off of my shoulders. I’m thankful that God has provided the beauty of other farmers and farmer’s markets and grocery stores, because I honestly have a bit of a brown thumb).
I’ve spent time with my dogs lately, spent time talking with my sisters, crying over some sad things in my life, marveling at God’s incredible gifts like:
God’s MERCY on me
God’s gifts of a very stable peaceful family life
Jesus Christ washing me with His blood and delivering me from the guilt of my eating disorder, my past struggles with relationships that I’ve been wrestling with, and giving me hope for a future of being drawn closer to Him through every trial.
My sister’s fiancee (He’s a pretty great guy)
My sisters being willing to listen to me struggle through the same things over and over again
Sorry if this is TMI BUT. . . I have had my period 4 TIMES JUST THIS YEAR which is the most I’ve had it in any year since I was 15
My church family
My Instagram buddies
April showers bringing May flowers
May showers bringing moreeee flowers and grass
The cool sunny weather in May
I could go on and on, but as I write this, it’s giving me a really fresh sense of perspective. Just yesterday and this morning, I was struggling to be hopeful, and then something happened that made me burst into millions of tears, but then. . . even in the midst of it all I have so much for which to be grateful.
Then there’s the eats. I’ve been obsessed with oatmeal, icecream (have you tried Haagen-Daaz peanut butter chocolate flavor?), lots of nut butter, Cheez-its, M&Ms (have you tried the caramel, peanut butter or peanut kinds)?
What does the rest of this month hold? Well, I’m going on a little bit of a road trip this week, and then the rest of the month will be soaked with wedding preparations, to which I’m actually really looking forward, because who doesn’t love helping plan a big party? (especially when you get to do the food?)
Tell me some random snapshots of your April and May?
