Twas the day before Christmas, when all through the house, Emily was scurrying about making even more goodies… Well, that was my attempt at a poem, and I know that God gave me gifts, but not the gift of poetry. It’s not quite the day before Christmas, but the anticipation is building up in my heart and home.
This has been of the most peaceful Christmases ever this year. The biggest reason? I think it’s that I’ve been reminded that I can celebrate Christmas whether or not I do all the traditions or make cookies, because Jesus Christ was born and came to save us from our sins, and that will never change.
What have I been eating in this past week of joyous celebration leading up to Christmas?
This week’s Christmas eats?
Caramel corn, sugar cookies, lemon poppyseed bread, and other yummy carbs have been part of the menu this week. I’ve been making a mindful effort, by the grace of God, to focus my heart on what REALLY matters. (Not a health expert but Hint: What really matters isn’t food or workouts.)
The best thing to do during Christmas time is to EAT in faith, ENJOY your family, and stay centered on Jesus Christ. Don’t stress. Be anxious for nothing. If you’re anxious take it to the Lord in prayer. In Him we have peace and safety. He is IN control. Robyn got it SO right in her VLOG about ‘Approaching the Holidays.’
QUICK PSA: (before I begin) I just received the World’s Greatest Beanie yesterday from Krochet Kid’s International. Literally, I didn’t think you could get the greatest beanie in the world, but it is already growing on me, and the best part is that the sweet lady who made the beanie SIGNED it too! Wow. I hope to meet her someday. It’s super soft, comfy, and warm. I hope you might consider one for the holidays… (I was not compensated for that review. It’s just a buyer’s rave review. Grateful to God for the gift of beanies tonight. <3)
Breakfast was simple… I was gifted with these AMAZING packs of granola from Vicki at My Favorite Indulgence, and it was an awesome blessing to try the pumpkin spice version this morning on my bowl of yogurt. The verdict? So chunky, just the right amount of sweetness, and really good. I think I might be getting some from Vicki in the future. 🙂
Dinner was super simple, as we rushed out the door shortly afterwards to go Christmas caroling. Christmas caroling is one of my FAVORITE parts of Christmas. It is such a joy to see people’s eyes light up when they open up the door and sing the good news to their hearts and their souls as they stand at the door. <3
Other Notable Dinners and eats of the week! 🙂
This taco salad with a dollop of …. sour cream. No, it’s not whipped cream. Although that might have tasted good.
Pecans on my yogurt never gets old. . .
My sweet sister made this delicious spaghetti sauce yesterday… Needless to say, it was good, but the fellowship over the food with my daddy and sister was EVEN BETTER.
My most favorite part of Christmas this year? I think this passage really sums it ALL up! Philippians 2:5-11 says, ‘Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.’
What is your most favorite part of the days leading up to Christmas?
What is filling your heart with joy right now?
If you’re struggling with joy, how can I encourage you?
