Lately I’ve realized that recovery is about so much more than me; it came to me again when I posted a photo and shared how I was discouraged about recovery. I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and compassion from numerous friends; I really didn’t expect it, and it made me think of Elijah when he thought he was alone; he wasn’t. God was with him, and God had even preserved prophets who hadn’t bowed the knee to Bail. There are so many others who are in this fight with me like Kat who is SO much farther on than me and a HUGE inspiration to me, Lyss (who has been a precious friend through much of it), Alison (who shines freedom and joy), Cora (who shares the ups and downs especially with the mental battles), Winnie (who is constantly promoting food freedom on Instagram and via her blog), Lex who BURSTS with joy and excitement about recovery from EDs and bringing them to the light, and so many other girls that I can not even share here because the list would be so long.
I am not alone.
My God is with me.
God has sent friends, sisters, even brothers in Christ to walk the road, to walk the journey, to remind me that there is much more to recovery than just one girl walking alone. He’s sent other friends who have gone through the same thing to encourage and uplift along the way.
I’ve been reminded of this through the little tool that’s called Instagram; it’s where I’ve found many friends who have wrestled with the same things and are overcoming by the blood of Jesus Christ! There is MUCH more freedom in sharing your struggles with others and asking them to pray for you and listening to their struggles rather than walking them alone.
I thought I would share this along with some tidbits about how the Lord Jesus Christ is enabling me to overcome food fears especially on vacation.
Since I last left you with the blog post about our ventures into the Czech Republic and Germany, we visited Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. It’s been an absolute whirlwind, and sometimes the leftovers of ED and my food idolatry and body idolatry are SCREAMING at me, but they can’t have the win, because JESUS wins, always.
I thought it would be fun to share a WIAW with Laura and Jenn since it’s been forever (or way too long since I last shared.)
Noteworthy Eats:
Hungary:
There was this donut. It was an Oreo one, and it was made even better by the yummy cream inside. I can’t say it wasn’t a challenge for me to get over a bit of fear of eating it, but it was 100% worth it, and I was thanking the Lord for donuts afterwards.
Hungarian Goulash Soup and A Hamburger That WAS INCREDIBLE: The soup was so warm and comforting, and I shared a bite of my sister’s hamburger while we were sitting by a large cathedral in Budapest, Hungary. Faith also just shared a recap of her time in Budapest which I thought was super cool.
Soft Bread with Apple Cherry Jelly, PB I brought from home, and some of the best sweet grapes. – Their grapes seem extra sweet here? I kind of wonder if they’re like the cotton candy grapes that people talk about at home?
Now that I’ve inundated you with a few pictures of the food we’ve been enjoying (there have also been quite a few visits to bakeries, because bakeries are a huge thing here. Even in the smallest town they have a bakery. It makes me want to start a bakery back home.)
Having the opportunity to see so many different places has been amazing. It’s incredible to me how you can go from country to country here, and you still have very different cultures, people, and even different foods.
There are some absolutely stunning church buildings here which you don’t see in Colorado; my guess is that they would be pretty expensive to build.
With that I’ll leave you with a reminder that if God is with you, who can be against you? There is no greater security than knowing Jesus, than knowing God and knowing that He has given you people to walk with, people to do the journey with, and that you will never be alone.
Have you ever felt like recovery was lonely?
How have you realized lately that recovery is much more than just you?
