Spiritual warfare. It’s real, and I believe that a lot of the battle faced in eating disorder recovery is not something that is seen. As a Christian, a Jesus follower, I know that Satan does not like my master Jesus. Satan doesn’t like him, because Jesus crushed Satan’s head on the cross and through the resurrection. And Satan is the greatest adversary we as human beings can face, and we can’t do it without Jesus. Satan is more powerful than me, but he’s not more powerful than Jesus.
1 Peter 5:8-10 says this so well, ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.’
It’s Jesus who stablishes us in this battle, who equips us for the battle with the whole armor of God. And without that armor, we’re defenseless.
This came to my mind the other day when I was watching a TV show with my sisters. It’s a show about bad guys vs. good guys. (Shocker right?).
