Fear. Did you know that a frequent command in the Bible is, ‘Fear not?’ I think that’s because God knows that we struggle with fear. I struggle with fear, irrational fear almost every day, and one of the biggest battles in my life has been learning the difference between the right and wrong kind of fear.
It’s been over one year since I posted this; I almost still can’t believe that I was able to jump out of a plane with a guy who definitely knew what he was doing, yet I knew I was totally 100% vulnerable, because only God knows what is going to happen. And God holds my life in His hands.
Skydiving was such an amazing, awe filling experience, and yet it taught me so much about fear.
Just this morning, as we are headed off on another adventure (writing this on September 12th), I’ve realized that my Heavenly Father has shown me so much about how He walks with us through every point of the Christian life, even when we are so tempted to fear the unknown, danger, hurt, and many other things and circumstances.
I’m not a courageous person by nature; I don’t plunge ahead into the unknown with zest and excitement, but this year has been a year of plunging into the unknown with less fear and more faith; my faith is most definitely not perfect, but my God has supplied my every need, calmed my every fear, and kept me in the palm of His hands.
Isaiah 41:10, ‘Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.’
John 14:27, ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’
Fear is real. If anybody tries to tell me that they have never feared anything, I might disbelieve them.
