Holiday eating should not be terrifying, but why are we sometimes scared of what the holidays will ‘do’ to our routine or our ‘bodies?’ I have to ask myself, ‘Do I trust God with my body or do I feel like I ‘have to control’ everything because I’m not putting my full trust, leaning on Him totally as I enjoy all His gifts of food, cookies, and all the goodies during the holidays?’
What should holiday eating be?
Joyous
Happy
Full
Thankful
Good Smelling
Warm
Hopeful
Grateful
But Not
terrifying
filling all your thoughts
calculating all the calories
That’s why I got all fired up to do a podcast with one of my bestest recovery friends.
Rachel at Cooks and Kicks is a girl who has come a long way in her recovery this year, and she sounded so excited about the holidays this year. I loved talking to her about:
– Avoiding diet culture during the holidays
– How to ENJOY the food but not make it about the food
– Rachel’s favorite holidays foods, holiday carols
– Why Christians can be a light of beacon and hope and remind others of the joy of the fellowship and food in the holidays
– Remember why searching for diet trends didn’t make you happy
– How God used a sermon from Rachel’s pastor to help her wake up to completely wanting to destroy the idol of food (WOW. THIS STUNG ME HARD IN such a good way.)
– Living to serve God and why food freedom falls into place after the Lord puts our hearts on Him above all else
This was such a sweet. rich. podcast that made me so excited about the holidays.
All of these pictures are some of the yummy eats Rachel shares; she writes fun captions that describe the process of the thinking behind intuitive eating and food freedom and enjoying all foods, whatever your body needs, and learning to see yourself the way God sees you, the way He has created you for His glory.
Food should NOT be a source of guilt. My sin should be a source of my guilt, but food is something God made. What God made is good. It’s precious, because it’s a reminder of His goodness. It’s a reminder of Who He is, His character and why it’s a wonderful thing to celebrate Him, all the time, and even make special times to glorify Him with feasting.
Your thoughts about holiday eating being a fun experience not terrifying? Is that what it is for you?
