Romans 8:28, 31: ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?’
These two verses are incredibly precious to my soul. I KNOW there are many of you who have experienced heartbreak. I know I’m not the only one, and just this week I realized for a few years I’ve been carrying the burden of a broken heart, or should I say a ‘bruised heart?’
Hearts are fragile. I know there are those here who have experienced heartbreak in different places, in different years of your life, and some of you are still healing. The Lord made us sensitive humans with emotions, and I used to think that guys weren’t sensitive, that they didn’t cry, that they didn’t get hurt like girls.
Well I was wrong. I learned that the very first time I talked to a young guy that I had been getting to know and discovered that we just weren’t the right match for one another. I remember feeling my heart HURT so deeply as I broke it to him. I remember feeling so cruel, but I knew I needed to be honest with him. It was hard.
I take such great comfort in the fact that God works everything including the heartbreak in the believer’s life for good. Yesterday I wrestled with that and had to remind my heart of that over and over and over as I was outside snowboarding in the awesomeness of my God’s creation.
So here’s a heartfelt poem for you all who might be struggling with heartbreak that has left you heavy, struggling to find hope, wondering, ‘Why?’
Mighty love. Uses the heartbreak.
Drawn closer to His heart.
Even though it did you shake
Divine plan. Though you don’t always know.
Naught can separate from His love.
Even though the trials upon you blow.
Jesus is Lord. He’s winning the war.
Though tears streak your face.
Someday they will be there no more.
Jesus KNOWS. He holds your heart.
Jesus knows. He sees beginning from end.
And He will work out every part.
God is sovereign. A truth you must hold.
He makes no mistakes.
And this can make you more bold.
There is nothing that surprise our Lord who is GOOD.
Even when we feel rattled, stressed, or uncertain.
His Word should be our daily comfort food.
Behold our God. He’s majestic in might.
Behold our God. He does what is right.
Behold our God. We don’t always know why.
Behold our God. To His presence fly!
My heart has been heavy. Barely lifting my head.
My heart has sunk to lows.
But Jesus is RISEN from the dead.
He constantly raises my head from the dust.
He knows that I’m weak.
He teaches my heart He’s worthy of trust.
Working all things for the good of His beloved.
Working even the beauty from ashes.
Though my heart often from Him has roved.
Jesus, I trust you, though my heart doth bleed.
Jesus, You are Lord, and You will always be.
My God and my Messiah, You my soul feed.
Guys and gals, the Christian life isn’t an ignoring of the pain or the evil in the world.
It’s the solution for the world’s pain and sin and evil.
It’s the superman that Superman, Batman, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and such could never be. Because Jesus Christ can save souls from our own self righteousness, our own deeply broken hearts, hearts broken by our own sin, our own failures, our own mistakes.
Psalm 92:5, ‘How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep!’
And I hope to keep sharing that with you. If you’re dealing with any heartbreak right now, please feel free to email me for prayer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
