Someone in my life is teaching me this. This person is teaching me that I’m valuable. That I’m valuable because God says I am, not because of what I do, what I have accomplished, or the things I don’t do.
It’s hard to remember that you as a human being are valuable. God says that He made us ‘fearfully and wonderfully’. That means there was no mistake in you being created.
Now. yes. Our bodies were affected by the fall. They have issues. They need healing and fixing, but God made each person in His image. And there is something so special about that, that’s even more special than my husky or cat.
Yet what do I preach on this blog?
I preach valuable.
You are valuable.
Because ULTIMATELY God is valuable. God is mighty and powerful, and His value, His worth, His love is more precious than anything else in the world.
In His presence is that fullness of joy, and being made in His image, in the image of the invisible God is what gives each person on this planet value.
Don’t let the world define your value by your accomplishments, by the acting gigs you’ve been able to land (even though that’s a wonderful gift), by the miles you’ve ran, by the beautiful cookies you’ve cooked; let your value be defined by what God says in His Word.
Matthew 6:25-26, ‘“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?’
Are you not of more value than they? That’s such a profound question. Do you believe that’s true? Are you not of more value than the birds and flowers and trees that God takes care of every day?
That is at the core of all my struggles with body image, exercise addiction, image obsession. Believing that in Christ Jesus, in God’s image, I am valuable.
It’s not because of me. It’s because of Him.
So I want to remind that you that in Him you are valuable.
