Beauty. It is a subject I am SO passionate about, because our culture wrongly defines it. They define it by what you do. They define it by what you look like in comparison to the celebrities, but how does God, the Father, the Maker of EVERYTHING define beauty?
Proverbs 31:30 is one of my favorite passages that is CONSTANTLY pointing me back to the importance of the inner beauty, the beauty that FLOWS from my heart, not the beauty that I can just put on on the outside. It says, ‘Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.’
Peter reminds the precious women in 1 Peter 3:4, ‘But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.’ That beauty is a beauty that no amount of age or time can take away. It is a beauty that is lasting, beautiful, precious, gentle, and bears the sweet savor of Christ.
Beauty looks different, and there is no ‘strict’ standard for beauty that we all have to adhere to, because that is the beauty of God creating EVERYONE different. What is the very essence of a beauty of a human being? Genesis 1 and 2 bears out that mankind was MADE in the image of God. No animal or creature was made in God’s image. There was something very special about a human being, and I am so grateful to be able to look at every human being and see them as a precious person, made in the image of my Lord God and Savior.
I was thinking about beauty, and I thought, ‘What if I reached out to some of my blogger friends and asked them to share about their ‘beauty’ routine everyday?’ You might be surprised. These precious girls are all so different, and I think that God made every one of them beautiful. This shows you that BEAUTY does not and never will look the same. It doesn’t include just a make-up routine, because God created us mind, body, soul, and spirit, and each girl illustrated that her beauty routine encompasses taking care of that WHOLE person. 🙂
Kaylin from ‘Enticing Healthy Eating’ chimed in and told me her morning beauty routine
‘My beauty routine is very short in the morning. I don’t put much thought into makeup and hair because I’m very comfortable in my own, natural skin. One beauty routine for my health I never fail to forget to do in the morning before eating anything else is I drink a glass of water with half a squeezed lemon and 1 Tbsp. of apple cider vinegar.’
Marina from ‘A Dancer’s Live It’ (She has a huge gift for dance and talking about body image/’clean eating’ issues in an AMAZING way) shared her beauty routine…)
‘Waking up early, getting in a workout that I LOVE doing, and then taking time at the end of the day to meditate to take in what just happened. Also, nourishing my body with delicious foods and eating what my body WANTS.’
Kayla from Healthy Helper Blog (one of my blogger friends that has inspired me with her positive attitude and love for blogging and healthy living) said that her beauty routine goes a little like this…
‘Taking care of my body inside and out is what’s beautiful to me! That means waking up early, doing some stretching and deep breathing, drinking a BIG glass of water, eating a hearty breakfast, getting in a workout, using all natural personal care products, and then heading to school with minimal makeup!’
Megan from Apron Strings and Sticky Fingers!!! I have been so thankful that we can get to know people from ALL the way across the world. Megan lives down under, and she has been a TREMENDOUS blessing from the Lord in the recovery journey and constantly reminding me what true beauty really is. She shared her beauty routine…
‘I like to focus on inner beauty first, so spending quiet time with God is a priority. Letting him be the most important thing in my life feeds that desire to be loved and accepted.’
Liz from Tongue in Chic (who GETS to live in KUWAIT and posts about travel and all that such fun stuff) shared that her beauty routine includes a rather fun way to start the morning.
‘My beauty routine is to have a killer glute workout followed by a muffin and cappuccino every Saturday morning.’
(Hehe… Don’t you love it.)
Last of all, I am so thankful that even though my body is wasting away, even though it’s often sore and weak, my INWARD woman is being renewed in beauty by God’s grace. My spirit is being renewed day by day with the hope of Jesus, the hope of God glorifying my body someday, of this earthly body being CHANGED to see my Lord and Savior someday. That is a hope to cling to, because it is sure, and it is SO AWESOME!
2 Corinthians 4:16 says, ‘So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.’
How would you define beauty?
Do you think the culture has too narrow of a definition of beauty?
What does your beauty routine include?
