This is a little bit of a different, not food related post, but my heart is hurting a little bit, and I don’t know if any of you have ever felt the same way. Does saying goodbye ever leave just a bit of a bittersweet taste in your heart?
I really don’t like goodbyes. Like, they are REALLY really hard for me, and I don’t deal with them well. This post was actually inspired my sister in the Lord Jesus Christ Megan who published a really vulnerable post that struck a chord deeply inside of me.
This came over me like a wave yesterday, when we were in Montrose, CO with some dear brothers and sisters in Christ. They were families we didn’t get to see very often, and the moment I started to think about having to say, ‘Goodbye’ I got a knot in my chest.
Goodbyes hurt. It’s like leaving parts of your heart everywhere.
And what would life be like if you died, said that goodbye to your loved ones, without having the hope of eternity?
I’m not sure, but my heart does know, by God’s precious grace and deep mercy and compassion, there is a DEEP hope and longing in my heart that SOMEDAY, we won’t have to say goodbye anymore. Someday, I can be in heaven with those beloved brothers and sisters singing our Lord’s praises, unaccompanied by any of the effects of sin or the sin that I still fight here on this earth.
Heaven is a great absolute truth in my life. The certainty of seeing Jesus Christ and being with all of His precious children, sinners, washed, cleansed, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, is something that fills me with such expectant hope and joy that it keeps me going … even when I have to say goodbye for a time on this earth.
One day there will be a day when we will be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
One day, together, redeemed sinners can fall at the foot of the Lamb and see Him and live eternity with Him, the fount of all compassion, mercy, grace, love, justice and absolute truth.
One day there will be no more goodbyes; no more goodbyes to these people might heart wraps around and comes to love so deeply. One day there will be a time of GREAT rejoicing in that final reunion, that final judgment day, where we will stand, cleansed by Christ’s blood and covered in His righteousness alone.
Oh how I long for that day, and I thank God that I can use the time here on this earth to tell others about that day and urge them to believe in Jesus Christ, the God man who came down into history, made an imprint on history, that impacts the world for eternity!
‘Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.’ (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)
My heart and soul can’t wait for that day!
Until then let’s forge ahead in faith.
And… some post election thoughts. I’m not going to say what I think about particular politics, but I’m reminded that my treasure is ultimately not here; I’m just here for a short time, to serve my God, serve the country and the people around me, and obey His Word. Life will go on; and Jesus Christ is and will ALWAYS be still my King and Lord.
…. Well, I also did say, ‘Goodbye’ to a couple delicious meals this past weekend… Those aren’t really that hard to say ‘goodbye’ too, because I do love people way more than food. And who doesn’t love saying goodbye to a sweet potato as you get to enjoy all the delicious flavors God has made in your mouth?
This time I’m leaving the Instagram captions on each photo to give you a little taste of the ‘story’ behind each one.
